Students will be able to... Understand early human migration and lifestyle Progress through Summit Playlists Do Now: See PowerPoint Whole Group: 1.Watch The Great Human Odyssey documentary. Answer the question on the worksheet while watching. 2. Share the answer to the questions on the video that you found, and any other facts that you found interesting while watching the video. Individual: Work on "Early Humans" Playlist on Summit. 1. Use your "Paleolithic Cultures Checklist" to determine what playlist resources you are required to read/watch. 2. If you are using a video, make sure you use this format to take notes in your notebook. If you are reading an article, make sure you use the Cornell Notes format to take notes. Keep your notes in your notebook so you can check them off with Mr. Williams next week. 3. You have until September 15th to complete all the resources on the checklist and pass the quiz. Make sure you are using your time effectively so you can get it done in time. 4. If you are done with all of the playlists for "Early Humans" you can begin working on the English playlist "Types of Evidence." Exit Ticket: See PowerPoint Homework: 1. Summit Playlists are due September 15th, work on those at home if you have access to a computer. 2. Your "Fears and Phobias" summary for English is due on Tuesday.

Objectives:
Students will be able to... 1. Identify the main idea of the text while reading "Fears and Phobias" 2. Practice identifying unknown words in a text and finding meanings for them using context clues 3. Progress through Summit Power Focus Areas Standards: RI 6.1 - Cite Evidence RI 6.2 - Determine the main idea or central theme of a text Do Now: What is a phobia? How is different from just a normal fear? Use your notes from "Fears and Phobias" to help you. Whole Group: Previewing CATCH - Circling unknown words and using context clues to determine meanings. Collaborative: "Fears and Phobias" compare and contrast. Become experts on either Fears or Phobias, then share your knowledge with your partner. Fill out the compare/contrast table in your notebook. *Mr. Williams will check in and make sure students have completed the homework (write the main idea of the last two sections of "Fears and Phobias" in their notebook). If they haven't completed the homework, they will finish doing this in class, if they have, they may begin working on Summit. Independent: Summit: 1. Students can either work on the Early Humans focus area or the Types of Evidence focus area. 2. Once you've chosen a focus area to work on, don't forget to set a goal for what you'll accomplish during your work time! 3. Remember to take notes in the correct format. For videos, I want your notes to look like this. For articles that you are reading, I want your notes to be in the Cornell style, as we've been practicing in class for the last couple of weeks. For Cornell notes, each section of the article should be written on the left side of the paper, with the main idea(s) of that section written next to it on the right side of the paper. 4. Make sure you're using your Resource checklists for English and History to make sure you're taking notes on the right things! 5.
