CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.6.2 Determine a central idea of a text and how it is conveyed through particular details; provide a summary of the text distinct from personal opinions or judgments. Do Now: See PowerPoint Whole Group: (20 minutes) Review CATCH Collaborative: (40 minutes) Students will be working in groups to annotate "Address to the Nation on Energy" by President Jimmy Carter. Each member of the group will be focusing on one part of CATCH. Once each member of the group has finished completing their specific role, they will all combine their annotation onto one. As groups are annotating the text, they should be attempting to answer the following question about the text: Identify TWO ways in which President Carter elaborates on the idea that Americans will find his energy plan difficult to follow. Use specific details from the speech in your answer. Students will be answering this question using a CEEL paragraph at the end of the period.
