Objectives:
Students will be able to... Demonstrate understanding of "The Banana Tree" by writing a summary. Standards: RL.6.2 - Determine a central idea or theme. Do Now: See PowerPoint Whole Group: (25 minutes): We will engage in another figurative language review activities focusing on simile, metaphor, personification, and imagery. Collaborative: (60 minutes): Students will be put back in their reading groups that they were working in last week. With their group, they will complete the reading of "The Banana Tree" as well the reading comprehension questions. Groups that finish early can take out a laptop and work on Summit. Independent: (15 minutes) Once groups finish reading and answering the questions, students will complete a summary of "The Banana Tree" using the rubric provided to guide their work. The summary should be at least 5-6 sentences long. This summary will be turned in as the exit ticket. Exit Ticket: See above. Homework: At the end of this week, we will begin reading independently in class and at home. In order to make sure you are all prepared for this activity, please make sure you have a book ready to read in class by FRIDAY. You can borrow one of my books that interests you, or you can find your own book from home/library.
