Standards: RL.6.3 Do Now: See PowerPoint Whole Group: We will be finishing up "The Banana Tree" plot map that we started yesterday. Collaborative: Students will work in groups to complete a figurative language review activity. Independent: Students will fill out a brainstorm graphic organizer to help prepare for the narrative writing assignment. Exit Ticket: Students will begin completing a plot map like the one created for "The Banana Tree" only for their own narrative. Students will be able to... Describe the different parts of narrative writing by accurately labeling a plot map. Standards: RL.6.3 - Describe how a particular story's or drama's plot unfolds in a series of episodes as well as how the characters respond or changes as the plot moves toward a resolution. Do Now: See PowerPoint Whole Group: Guided notes on narrative writing presentation. Collaborative: Students will listen to an audio recording of "The Banana Tree." While they are listening, they will be working as a class/in groups to fill out a plot map of the story. Students will be able to... Demonstrate understanding of "The Banana Tree" by writing a summary. Standards: RL.6.2 - Determine a central idea or theme. Do Now: See PowerPoint Whole Group: (25 minutes): We will engage in another figurative language review activities focusing on simile, metaphor, personification, and imagery. Collaborative: (60 minutes): Students will be put back in their reading groups that they were working in last week. With their group, they will complete the reading of "The Banana Tree" as well the reading comprehension questions. Groups that finish early can take out a laptop and work on Summit. Independent: (15 minutes) Once groups finish reading and answering the questions, students will complete a summary of "The Banana Tree" using the rubric provided to guide their work. The summary should be at least 5-6 sentences long. This summary will be turned in as the exit ticket. Exit Ticket: See above. Homework: At the end of this week, we will begin reading independently in class and at home. In order to make sure you are all prepared for this activity, please make sure you have a book ready to read in class by FRIDAY. Students should either be working on the Plot playlist, or if they have already completed it, they should begin working on the Figurative Language Playlist. Collaborative: (45 minutes) Students will get back into the reading groups they were in last week. With their group, students will continue reading "The Banana Tree" and answering the comprehension questions that go along with it. Students will be able to... 1. Review figurative language by completing the packet we began yesterday. 2. Comprehend "The Banana Tree" by reading the text and answering comprehension questions in groups. Standards: RL.6.5 Do Now: See PowerPoint Whole Group: Students will be given time to complete the packets we started yesterday. Once the class has finished, we will review the types of figurative language that we've started learning. Collaborative: Students will be put in groups of three and assigned group roles. The three roles and their descriptions are included below: 1. Reader - This person in responsible for reading the text out loud to their other group members. 2. The Note taker - This person in in charge of filling out the guided questions worksheet. The note taker will also serve as the facilitator, making sure that members of the group are on task and that the whole group is using their time effectively. 3. The Artist - the artist will complete two drawings for the group related to the story. The directions for what this student will be doing are on the packet that will be passed out. Do Now: (5 minutes) See PowerPoint Whole Group: (25 minutes) As a class, we will be using a Pear Deck to introduce the different kinds of figurative language. Collaborative: (50 minutes) In table groups, students will be completing activities for each form of figurative language. Groups will have 8-10 minutes to complete each activity. For the activity titled "Figurative Language Song Practice Station" in your packet, use this video to complete the graphic organizer. Standards: RI.6.1 - Cite textual evidence. RI.6.2 - Determine the main idea of a passage. Do Now: (10 minutes) See PowerPoint Whole Group: (25 minutes) We will review the elements of a quality CEEL paragraph together. We will do this by reviewing a question from the ELA interim assessment that we took a couple of weeks ago. We will read the passage as a class and annotate for important details. Students will then answer the question again, this time in correct CEEL paragraph form. Independent: (40 minutes) All students will begin in independent station. While in independent, they will be expected to complete the following activities in order:
Students will work in their groups to complete the assignment for checkpoint two of their Ancient Egyptian Museum project. Follow the directions below to get started. 1. Go to Summit. 2. Click on "Year" then on "Ancient Egyptian Museum Project" 3. Scroll down to the second checkpoint (Egyptian Pharaoh Paragraph) and "view all" 4. Open the first two resources. 5.
