Objectives:
Students will be able to... 1. Identify and define technical language in "Mammoth Shakes and Monster Waves" using context clues. 2. Continue gathering evidence to answer the unit essential question (how to people react/respond to disaster) based on examples from the text. Standards: RI.6.4 - Determine the meaning of words. Do Now: See PowerPoint Whole Group: We will be finishing the read aloud of "Mammoth Shakes and Monster Waves." As Mr. Williams reads aloud, students will be looking for and defining technical language from the text. Collaborative: Once we have completed the read aloud, students will be engaging in a discussion with their partners about certain aspects of the text. Individual: Students will be asked to write down a geo-mythological story for how and why the Delicate Arch was created. Depending on the time, this may also double as our exit ticket. Exit Ticket: See above. Homework: 1. Make sure you are getting your agenda signed everyday by your parent/guardian. I will be checking agendas on Wednesday for signatures. 2. Essay corrections are due tomorrow at the beginning of class. If you have questions about what you need to do to your essay to fix it, let me know.

Identify cause-and-effect relationships and record them in a graphic organizer to use as evidence to respond to the essential question. Standards: RI.6.1, RI.6.4 Do Now: See PowerPoint Whole Group: Mr. Williams will continue with the read aloud of the next two sections of "Mammoth Shakes and Monster Waves." Collaborative: Students will work in pairs to fill out a graphic organizer. Independent: Students will use the graphic organizer they completed during class as well as the text to complete a performance task that will be turned in at the end of class. This task will likely serve as the exit ticket. Students will also be working on the Egyptian Map assignment for the Museum Project that was introduced last week. Students will use this worksheet to complete their map. Search "Ancient Egypt Map" in Google to help you create your own map. Exit Ticket: See above. Homework:
